Thomas Jacob ” Jack” Black was born in 1969, August 28th. He is a member of what is known as the Frat pack, which is a group of comedians who have acted in numerous films together. They have been nominated for two golden globe awards.
Black has won a number of awards including MTV Movie Award and Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award. He hosted the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2006 and 2008.
Both his parents were satellite engineers. His mother Judith was Jewish and his father, Thomas William Black converted to Judaism. They divorced when he was 10 and Jack would frequently visit his mother but stayed with his father.
He went to a private secondary school called Poseidon and also attended crossroads where his love for drama grew and he excelled. His father stopped supporting him when he dropped out of UCLA to pursue an acting career.
Career in movies
Though he has played some serious roles, he is usually the outsider in comedy films.
His first acting gig was when he was 13. He had roles in such shows as Life Goes On, Mr. Show, Northern Exposure, Picket Fences, and The X-Files.
He had roles in Airborne, Judge Dredd, The fan, Waterworld, The Cable Guy, Tim Robbins’ Dead Man Walking, Enemy of the State, and others. He considers his breakout role to be his appearance in High Fidelity as a wild employee in John Cusack’s record store and Kung fu panda to be his favorite role.
He has also had leading roles in Shallow Hal, Nacho Libre, Guliver’s travels and Tenacious D. His role in school of rock earned him a golden globe nomination.
Career in music
He is the lead singer of the rock comedy band, Tenacious D. Along with his band mate, Kyle Gass, they have released three albums. One of their songs “The Metal” was used in the music video games Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock and Brütal Legend.
A couple of others have also been featured in various other games.
Jack and Tanya Haden, one of the daughters of the bassist Charlie Haden got married in May 14, 2006. They first met at crossroads school then 15 years later at a friend’s birthday party. Their son, Samuel Jason “Sammy” Black, was born on June 10, 2006, then later in May 23, 2008, Jack and his wife had their second son, Thomas David Black.
A former atheist, he now goes to synagogue with his children.
The 44 year old’s net worth is rumored to be around 40 million dollars. His band, Tenacious D has helped the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation to raise awareness and funds.
