Jake Gyllenhaal was born in 1980, and he was only 10 years old when he began acting.
One of his first roles was in the movie City Slickers. He could have also landed a role in The Mighty Ducks. However, his parents did not want him to leave home for two months.
That did not stop him, though. Only a year later he then starred in (Dangerous Woman). His sister also played in that movie. Then, appeared a couple of times with his mother on the Italian cooking show Molto Mario which aired on the Food Network.
1999, Gyllenhaal finally played his first lead role in October Sky. That movie generated a total of $32 million in sales. He also did star in Donnie Darko, but that film did not do as well as his first movie. After that, he played in a few other lesser-known films such as Bubble Boy, Highway, and Lovely & Amazing. During that same period, he also co-starred with Jennifer Aniston in The Good Girl.
Jake then moved on to star in Proof, Jarhead, and Brokeback Mountain along with Heath Ledger. Brokeback Mountain was quite controversial because it portrayed two men in a homosexual relationship. However, it still won quite a few prizes, including the Golden Lion award as well as four Golden Globes and four BAFTA awards.
In 2007, he acted along with girlfriend (Reese Witherspoon) in the movie Rendition as well as the lead role inZodiac. Two years later he then played in Brothers with Tobey Maguire. As of 2009, it was reported that Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal split. However, the public was left unconfirmed as to the true status of their relationship.
In 2012, Gyllenhaal starred two more films (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Love and Other Drugs). He starred again in Source Code (2011) and End of Watch (2012).
Jake Gyllenhaal has a total net worth of $65 million.
