Early life

Stewart whose real name is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz was born in New York City on November 28 in year 1962. His mother, Marian and his father, Donald Leibowitz, got divorced when Stewart was eleven years old, and he no longer has any contact with his father.

He and his older brother, Larry, attended Lawrence High School in Lawrenceville New Jersey.  His brother is currently Chief Operating Officer of the NYSE.

Stewart went to Virginia for his college education. He was a student at the college of William & Mary, where he did psychology.

Career

After college, Stewart did not go straight into college. He had several jobs some of which included a puppeteer for children with disabilities, a caterer, a shelf stocker at Woolworths and a high school soccer coach. He also worked as a contingency planner for the Department of Human services in New Jersey.

He started off his TV career on the Jon Stewart show in 1993. Not only is he a standup comedian, but he has also had several film roles in a number of movies the most notable being half baked, mixed nuts and death to smoochy. He is also the co-author of America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction, which was one of the best-selling books in the United States in 2004. He was awarded the ‘best comedy album Grammy” for this. He also co authored Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race released in 2010 for which he received the ‘best spoken word album Grammy.

The Daily Show

Stewart became the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central in early 1999. He is also a writer and co-executive- producer of the show. After Stewart joined, The Daily Show gained popularity which has resulted in 16 Emmy Awards. Personality driven shows on US media networks have mostly been the target of the daily show.

Personal life

In the year 2000, Stewart got married to Tracey Lynn McShane, his girlfriend of 4 years. The two met each other on a blind date. He proposed to his wife using a personalized crossword puzzle that was created with the help of his friend Will Shortz, who is the crossword editor at The New York Times. The couple’s first child, a son named Nathan Thomas Stewart, was born in July 2004. In February 2006, they had their second child, this time a daughter named Maggie Rose Stewart.

Net worth

Stewart is reportedly paid $1.5 million for one season of The Daily Show. According to the Forbes list of Celebrities, he earns $14 million a year. In total, this man is said to be worth about $80 million.
